From capture to final export.

Getting started

1. Launch Snapvies. The scissors icon appears in the macOS menu bar.
2. Use the scissors menu to capture an image, open the recorder or video editor, change settings, or open Help.
3. The first capture or recorder refresh asks for Screen & System Audio Recording access. After granting access, quit and reopen Snapvies.

Capture an image

Choose an entire display, draw a selection, or pick one visible window. An Entire Screen capture uses the display containing the pointer.

After capture

• Copy the image to the clipboard.
• Save PNG, JPEG, HEIC, TIFF, or PDF.
• Add the image to Apple Photos.
• Open Capture Edit for crop, text, boxes, circles, arrows, lines, blur, or background focus.

Use the Pointer tool to move or resize an annotation. Newly placed items remain selected so you can immediately change color, line width, fill, font, size, or opacity.

Record a display or window

1. Open Video Recorder and choose a display or visible application window.
2. Turn System Audio and Microphone on or off independently. On macOS 15 or later, choose the microphone you want.
3. Select Start, Pause, Continue, or Stop from the recorder or with your configured global shortcuts.
4. After Stop, choose File Only, Photos Only, File & Photos, or Edit First.

Optional no-motion auto-stop can end a recording after the configured criteria are met. If a recorded window is minimized, Snapvies inserts visible black placeholder frames until the window returns.

Edit a video

• Click the timeline to select a split position, then split the included segment.
• Drag each segment’s start and end handles to trim it.
• Preview all included segments in order while excluded gaps are skipped.
• Mute or adjust each audio track independently from 0–200%.
• Add timed annotation segments with crop, text, shapes, arrows, lines, blur, focus, and imported images.

Snapvies writes a new edited movie and does not overwrite the source video.

Save and export

Image exports support PNG, JPEG, HEIC, TIFF, and PDF. Video exports support QuickTime MOV, MP4, and Apple M4V. Snapvies remembers the last image export folder and keeps pending video files visible with Copy Path and Show in Finder controls.

Default shortcuts

Open Settings with Command–Comma to change shortcuts. Snapvies warns when a combination is already registered by macOS or another app.

macOS permissions

• Screen & System Audio Recording: requested when you first capture or refresh recording sources.
• Microphone: requested only when Microphone is enabled and recording begins.
• Photos: requested only when you choose to add an image or recording to Photos.

Manage permissions in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Quit and reopen Snapvies after changing a permission.
